Biochemistry Department third year graduate student Oliver Zeldin was selected to give a talk at the Gordon Research Conference for Diffraction Methods in Structural Biology in Lewiston, Maine, USA this July.

He was the only graduate student selected from the poster presenters following conversations at his poster with the anonymous jury, and was given just 15 hours to put the talk together.

Oli’s talk was entitled "Modelling dose profiles in 3D: Quantifying and optimising strategies for the minimisation of radiation damage". He delivered a gripping presentation which raised many questions from the audience, and included the modelling of a meat patty being ‘fried’ by an X-ray beam as a demonstration of optimising data collection strategies.

Oli is an EPSRC-funded student in the Life Sciences Interface Programme of the Doctoral Training Centre and is carrying out research in the Garman group.
