Studentship Source Code 11SKAGGSOX

The Skaggs-Oxford Scholarships support the Scripps-Oxford 5-Year joint PhD/DPhil Programme with The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI). Candidates read for a PhDin Biology, Chemistry, or Chemical Biology at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI), La Jolla,California, and Biochemistry at the University of Oxford. The degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Joint Oxford/TSRI) is jointly examined and awarded by both institutions. The program is made possible through the generosity of supermarket and drugstore magnate L.S. Skaggs and his wife, Aline.

The Skaggs-Oxford Scholarships permit highly qualified students to gain a broader and deeper interdisciplinary research experience than is possible from a single institution’s doctoral program. It provides diversity in curriculum, scientific approaches, and research training with access to facilities and expertise at both Oxford and TSRI. It also offers students the experience of the distinct cultures of the United States and Britain.

Normally, up to two students will be admitted to the program each year, one starting at La Jolla and another at Oxford. Candidates must apply formally to the Graduate School at Scripps indicating that they wish to be considered for the Scripps-Oxford Joint degree programme. A joint committee will review short-listed applications and successful candidates will be enrolled concurrently at both institutions.

To apply for the Skaggs-Oxford Scholarships and the TSRI-Oxford Programme you must apply to the TSRI Graduate School online

The deadline for applications is 1 December 2013.
