Parents, Carers and Flexible Working

Parents and Carers

The University aims to support all employees with parental or caring responsibilities to ensure that they are able to balance work and family life.

The University's equality and diversity unit provides information for mothers and fathers as well as carers. They provide links to university policies, procedures and guidance, as well as details of the facilities and benefits offered to mothers, fathers and guardians of children. You can find this information at http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/eop/parentsandcarersinformation.

For more information about the University's childcare services please download their leaflet (click here), see http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/childcare/. A map of the local nurseries can be found here.

FACT SHEET! We have created a factsheet to help pull together some of the information available, to view and download please click here.

Sponsored Childcare Places

Biochemistry participates in the University sponsored places scheme which enables colleges and departments to nominate staff or students for a priority place on the nursery waiting list. The Department was allocated 4 sponsored places which advances applicants up the waiting list, for information on the priority groups please see https://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/childcare/nurseryinformation/. If you are already in priority groups 1 – 3, there is no need to apply for a sponsored place.

Please note you must have already applied to Childcare Services and be on the waiting list for a nursery place before you apply for a sponsored place, and being nominated for a sponsored place does not guarantee you will be allocated a place, it will simply advance you up the waiting list.

To find out if the Department has any unallocated sponsored places please contact Rita Emberton.

Flexible working

Flexible working can include a wide variety of working practices. A flexible working arrangement can be any working pattern other than the normal working pattern in your department.

For more guidance please see http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/personnel/during/flexible/staff/
