Information for Postdocs Section

Dear Biochemistry Postdocs, Great news! We have a host of events lined up for 2019 and a few more left before the Christmas break.

We plan to continue our regular events:

Postdoc Coffee: Once a month : Each coffee session has a theme and an invited speaker who covers a topic of interest). Coffee sessions are a good opportunity to socialise with your fellow postdocs or to discuss your concerns with a postdoc committee member. The next postdoc coffee will be mid-December (date to be announced). Come and enjoy free coffee, tea and pastries.

Seminar Series : Every three months: Ranging in topics from career development to writing your next grant. Keep a look out for our emails. The next seminar will host a talk and an informal panel discussion with a few speakers who have moved from science to consulting (date to be announced).

Postdoc Evening Socials : Once every two months: Informally 'postdoc beers' but of course you don't have to drink beer! The most important thing is for us postdocs to drown our sorrows or raise our spirits in each other's company. The next social will be in January 2019.

We also plan to put on several one-off events throughout the year:

"How to get the most from your PDR (Personal Development Review)": two sessions in January 2019: In collaboration with Professional and Support Staff network we have an invited speaker to run a workshop on what the PDR is meant to do for you. There are still someplaces available for the first session the 28th January (14h30-16h30) - sign up fast! A second session will be organised on Thursday 31th January (13h-15h) if at least 12 participants register. Please email the postdoc committee if you would like to attend ( ).

Postdoc Formal : Feb-March: Yes, many of us are not associated with a college, but does that mean we cannot wine and dine? No, no it doesn't! Join us as we sit down and have a great meal with great company (that's us ;-)) in one of Oxford's great colleges.

Workshops to prepare you for writing funding applications and interviews: spring and autumn 2019.

Postdoc Poster Session : May: Fancy finding out more about what your fellow postdocs are working on in the department? Submit a poster and join us for this annual event and you might find some great insight or perspectives from your peers, which you may otherwise have missed.

Postdoc Retreat : October: Following on from this year's hugely successful postdoc retreat, we have another one lined up for next year. We would also like to thank you all for attending and providing us with feedback from the event, which we are using to direct next year's retreat.

The postdoc committee aims to provide a basis for collaboration, wellbeing and development for postdocs here in the department, as well as reaching out to postdocs across the medical sciences division. We run these events for you, to help you meet your next collaborator, as a sounding board when times get tough, and to help you decide which step to take next. Come along to our events and enrich your life! Please contact us here with any comments or suggestions. We are always looking for new members for the committee too, so if you would like to help with future events come along and join us.

The Postdoc Committee.
