SSH secure shell software
ssh is a program for logging into a remote
machine and for executing commands on a remote machine.
It is a replacement for telnet, rlogin and rsh, and provides secure
encrypted communications between two untrusted hosts over an
X11 connections and arbitrary TCP/IP
ports can also be forwarded over the secure channel.
sftp is an interactive file transfer program, similar to ftp,
which performs all operations over an encrypted ssh transport.
ssh and sftp client software is available for PC, Mac and Unix hosts.

MacOS X and Classic MacOS
MacOS X comes with Unix command line versions of ssh and sftp already

There is also a graphical frontend for sftp called Fugu available at
