University of Oxford Department of Biochemistry Centenary Auto Portrait Project

To mark the Centenary the department has created an exciting new project. Autoportrait, an illuminated, inclusive and impressive installation of photographic self-portraits curated by local photographer Rory Carnegie.
It is an historical and collaborative art-work that represents the department 'now' in 2023. Different labs, different levels, different jobs and workgroups connecting together. Giving everyone a chance to take part and be noticed. Giving everyone
a chance to use their scientific and creative imagination. Science and art are being brought together to celebrate this wonderful 100 year old department.
The project began with this invitation to departmental staff:
The Department of Biochemistry’s Centenary Auto-Portrait project is designed to tell the story of all the people of the department and their work as we celebrate 100 years of exploring, explaining and advancing human life.
With the help of our commissioned photographer, Rory Carnegie, together we will create a montage of 100 photos taken by you of you.
By giving you complete autonomy over where you are in the DCHB and surrounds, what you are doing and whether you are alone or in a group, your photo will be your expression of you in the context of your work. You will even get to control the shutter and delete the photos you don’t like.
Participation in the project takes about 20 minutes of your time and is explorative and creative, collaborative and fun.
