Laidlaw Leadership Scholars honoured in Sheldonian

Three of this year’s 24 undergraduate Laidlaw Leadership Scholars were Biochemistry students. They were honoured at an event at the Sheldonian Theatre on 25th October, where each scholar showcased a poster on their summer research projects.

The three students were Joshua Dickerson, Jon Machin (Corpus Christi College, Tutor: JL Kiappes), and Alessandra Peters (LMH, Tutor: Phil Biggin).

Their three projects were respectively: to optimise the incident X-ray energy for macromolecular crystallography structure determination (with the Garman group) including an experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, USA, an investigation of the structure of tau-proteins using CryoEM at MRC-LMB Cambridge (with M. Goedert and B. Falcon) and an assessment of the efficacy of a novel antibiotic conjugate on multi-resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in the a presence and absence of metals at MIT, USA (with the Nolan group).
