Three of this year’s 24 undergraduate Laidlaw Leadership Scholars were Biochemistry students. They were honoured at an event at the Sheldonian Theatre on 25th October, where each scholar showcased a poster on their summer research projects.
The three students were Joshua Dickerson, Jon Machin (Corpus Christi College, Tutor: JL Kiappes), and Alessandra Peters (LMH, Tutor: Phil Biggin).
Their three projects were respectively: to optimise the incident X-ray energy for macromolecular crystallography structure determination (with the Garman group) including an experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory, Long Island, USA, an investigation of the structure of tau-proteins using CryoEM at MRC-LMB Cambridge (with M. Goedert and B. Falcon) and an assessment of the efficacy of a novel antibiotic conjugate on multi-resistant Pseudomonas Aeruginosa in the a presence and absence of metals at MIT, USA (with the Nolan group).
