Research Excellence Framework 2021 Results

On Thursday 12th May 2022, the UK funding bodies published the results of the UK's most recent national research assessment exercise, the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021. Research from the Department of Biochemistry and five other University departments was submitted to the Unit of Assessment for Biological Sciences (UOA5).

Head of Department Professor Francis Barr praised the diversity of research submitted by the Department of Biochemistry for the national research assessment exercise and thanked researchers and staff for their efforts: "The UOA5 REF outcome was positive in terms of research outputs, the impact of our research, and the research environment where we scored 100%. Biochemistry returned sixty-six staff to REF2021, up from thirty-five for REF2014, so this outcome shows the benefits of including all research active staff at different career stages. These achievements reflect the hard work done in Biochemistry and other departments to combine high quality research and teaching in an academic environment. That is something we can be truly proud of, I wish to thank all our researchers and staff for their continued efforts".
