The Department of Biochemistry hosts the 11th Charles Warren Workshop
The event returns to Oxford, to the department where Charles Warren began his scientific career
This month, Weston Struwe and Antoni Wrobel welcomed researchers from around the world to the 11th Charles Warren Workshop, held from 1 to 4 September 2026. Marking the workshop's 20th anniversary, the event returned to the department where Charles Warren began his scientific career. The traditional gala dinner was held at his college, Hertford.

The workshop opened with a talk from Professor Raymond Dwek FRS, "Every Pandemic Catches Us Unprepared: What If a Single Drug Could Work Against Any Virus?", and closed with Professor Ben Davis FRS on "Sugars & Proteins: Post-Translational Editing".
Around 80 researchers from across the glycosciences took part in research talks, poster sessions and social gatherings, with this year's programme focused on virus glycobiology. The event was a great success, sparking new ideas and future collaborations among participants and their research groups: a testament to the continuing vibrancy and diversity of the glycobiology community.
Prizes for the best talk and poster were awarded following votes by invited speakers, with Tia Hawkins (Weston Struwe's lab) taking the best poster prize, and John Clarke (Antoni Wrobel's lab) awarded second place.
The event was sponsored by Professor Raymond Dwek — Charles's DPhil supervisor — along with Oxford’s Kavli Institute for NanoScience Discovery and the Complex Carbohydrate Research Center of the University of Georgia.
