Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellows joining Biochemistry

It is a pleasure to announce that two new Wellcome Trust Career Development Fellows will be joining the Department. Dr Clinton Lau is moving from the Medical Research Council Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge and Dr Michael Ranes from the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), London.

Clinton was an undergraduate in the Department and did his DPhil training in structural biology in Matt Higgin's laboratory. At the LMB Cambridge, he worked on how the motor protein, dynein can be activated and inhibited. Clinton's research programme will address how the cytoskeleton and the invasive organelles in malarial parasites are organised.

Michael did his PhD at the Crick Institute, London and then moved to the ICR in London where he analysed mechanistic details on the Wnt/beta-catenin destruction complex. Michael will build on these accomplishments to further understand how the Wnt/beta-catenin pathway is activated at the plasma membrane and subsequently terminated inside cells.

Phase 1 of the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building

Michael Ranes' and Clinton Lao's groups will be based in the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Building
