Terms and Conditions of your employment

THE SMALL PRINT...

Whilst not the most exciting part of starting your new job, it is important that you read through your contract carefully and understand the terms and conditions of your new post. If you have any questions you can contact our HR Team who will assist you.

Details of your employment will be outlined in your Contract and Statement of terms & conditions of employment. Key information on terms and conditions can be found as follows:

Support (Grades 1–5) (Support and Technical roles)
Academic-Related (Grades 6-10) (Professional and Management roles, and research posts. For example Research Assistants and Post-Doctoral Research Scientists)
Academic Employees (Professors, Readers and Associate Professors)

ANNUAL LEAVE

The holiday entitlement is based on 38 days inclusive of 8 public holidays and 5 fixed days of closure (pro rata if part-time). Please contact HR if you have queries about your specific entitlement.

In our Department we use TeamSeer platform, with an online workflow to log in all the absences.

We do not require absence logs from our visitors or students. However, please send an e-mail to your Manager, with a copy to the HR team, if you are a visa holder, as all absences for visa holders must be recorded.

PDR

PROBATION REVIEW & PDR

Our probation and personal development review (PDR – SSO required) process is a practical evaluation of the year gone by and a discussion about the year ahead.

When you start, your line manager will go through this system to set your objectives for your probationary period. You will then have a mid and end-of probationary period review before being confirmed in post. Within the Department of Biochemistry, PDRs are run on an annual cycle.

PAY DATES

Your pay will be credited directly to your bank account on the penultimate working day of the month, except for December when pay is credited before Christmas.

Payslips are available online only and can be accessed via HR Self-Service. Access your account from within the University network, or off-site via VPN. For more information, or to log in, visit www.ox.ac.uk/hrss

We are pleased to advise that access to HR Self Service has now been extended to casual workers (including TSS), teachers, examiners and employees of eligible subsidiaries.
